Over the past couple of years, though a chance meeting at the IAPTI conference in London in October 2013, I have visited Ukraine on several occasions to deliver lectures and lead seminars and workshops on the subjects of: Interpreting within the UK justice system, the structure of the Criminal Justice System in UK, Interpreting for the Police, translating modern English literature and other subjects. I have worked at the universities of Donetsk and Vinnetsa and have plans to visit other universities in the cities of Odessa and Chernivitsi. My experience of working with staff and students in Ukraine has been very positive and I feel greatly enriched as a result of my work there.
I have extensive experience of working within the judicial field, in criminal, family and civil law cases.
I have interpreted in serious criminal trials, including rape, drug trafficking and murder.
I have also undertaken large volumes of translation work in relation to these trials.
Over the years I have developed close working relationships with several prestigious law firms, being involved in the translation of evidence in preparation for trial and interpreting during prison visits in order to take clients’ instructions.
My career as a translator and interpreter has not, however, been restricted to the legal field.
Some other areas in which I have worked include: publishing, academia, migrant welfare, trades unions, business, mental health, NGO’s and media.
I enjoy working in diverse areas and am equally at home translating and interpreting. Details of some of the work I have done over the past fifteen years can be viewed on this site.
